Email [email protected]. If a portal rejected a file PortalPrep made, say which portal and what its message said — that’s how a preset gets corrected for everyone.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. On this website your photo is resized and compressed inside your browser. Nothing on the site can receive a file, and the page is set up so the browser blocks it from sending one anywhere. The app works the same way, on your phone.
Why was my photo refused?
PortalPrep refuses a photo rather than make one the portal would reject. The usual reasons:
- It’s too small. PortalPrep never enlarges a photo — that would pass the size check with a blurrier face — so use a larger original.
- It’s landscape and the portal expects portrait (the UK passport and visa photos). Use a photo taken upright.
- Even the lowest acceptable quality couldn’t fit the file-size limit at the portal’s minimum dimensions. This is rare with real photos.
- The file couldn’t be read. Some iPhone photos (certain Portrait-mode shots) can’t be decoded in a browser; save the photo as JPEG and try again.
Does it check the photo itself?
No. PortalPrep fixes the file — its size, shape and format. It doesn’t judge the background, lighting, expression or glasses, which portals also have rules for.
The portal’s rules look different from the preset.
Portals change their requirements without notice. Each preset page links the official source and the date it was last checked; if the official page now says something else, trust it — and let us know so the preset can be updated.
Can the website shrink a PDF?
Not yet — the website handles photos. The PortalPrep app shrinks PDFs on your phone, rebuilding pages or splitting a document into parts when it can’t fit in one file.
The app
PortalPrep is coming to the App Store and Google Play: the same presets, plus PDFs, hiding sensitive numbers before you share a document, a history of what you’ve prepared, and custom presets. A purchase in the app is made through Apple or Google; to restore it on a new phone, use “Restore a previous purchase” in the app.
